Polish Club are burning in hell today, as they release their new record Now We’re Cookin’ In Hell. The Sydney rock duo have also released a hellish video for focus track ‘David’s Inferno’.
Featuring recent single ‘Unstable’, and double A side ‘Boys On Vacation’ and ‘Bad Vibrations’, Now We’re Cookin’ In Hell is a record made of songs that were written in the same period as previous record Now We’re Cookin’. With as many guitar solos as there are tracks, singer David Novak confidently believes it is definitively a ‘rock album’, “We knew as soon as we got Now We’re Cookin’ out the door, perhaps even before it, that we were immediately going to go back and revisit our favourite, more rockier tracks from those sessions. They were songs that were rejected by our label for the album, but we didn’t want to let them die. Revisiting them with a full four-piece live band really proved to ourselves that we made the right choice in sticking with them.”
The full four-piece live band in question is Novak and other half of Polish Club John-Henry Pajak on drums, plus producer Wade Keighran returning on bass and live guitarist Dan Cunningham. The quartet tracked the half an hour of rock at Golden Retriever Studios in Sydney’s Inner West late last year, with Keighran mixing and Nick Franklin engineering and mastering.
Also dropping today is the video for focus track ‘David’s Inferno’. Directed by Billy Zammit and shot in Riverstone, Sydney’s The Good Egg studio, the performance video sees the newly expanded live four-piece playing the drop-D tune against a hellish, red backdrop. Dark as the song may sound and despite its nihilist title, ‘David’s Inferno’ lauds the immortality of art, as Novak defiantly states on the track, “Only thing with certainty is that this song will live on.”
They may be in Hell, but rest assured that Polish Club and its music will live on forever.
Now We’re Cookin’ In Hell is also available as a limited edition 180-gram red & yellow coloured vinyl, with a full menu of exclusive merch available from here.
