Adding his voice to the current wave of young artists pushing hip hop forward, Sydney’s ZPLUTO (pron. Zee-Pluto), today releases his new single ‘Bonnie & Clyde’. (Out through Island Records Australia/Universal Music.)
The well-executed ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ was recorded in ZPLUTO’s home garage in Western Sydney with producer Kenzi contributing beats to his smooth, gravely vocals.
ZPLUTO explains, “Kenzi told me he was experimenting, and I was two beats into the pack he sent me, and I stumbled upon the Bonnie and Clyde recording. The instruments were kind of a melodic track of Posty or Drake, but the percussion had Drill experimentation, it was interesting to me. I just told my sound engineer Ben Briddon to load up the beat and let’s get to it. In about 30mins, I had the entire track down. I just went with what I felt in the moment.“
When it comes to his own music, ZPLUTO manoeuvres in a sonic world not unfamiliar to fans of The Kid LAROI, Juice WRLD and Post Malone. His lyricism could be pulled from journal entries; melodies and a flow that relies on a balance of vulnerability and confidence to stick the landing. For ZPLUTO, this balance comes naturally.
Directed by Rob Milazzo ‘The Sesh’ , the Bonnie & Clyde official video brings to life the message ZPLUTO felt of when two lovers unite, they can do anything and face the world head on. The 3-day shoot was filmed in Sydney’s CBD and Western Sydney including on location at the Australiana Pioneer Village in Wilberforce.
